CDR James Morrison

Executive Officer/Assistant Professor of Naval Science

Biographical Information

Commander James “Jim” Morrison is a native of Readfield, Maine. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia, a Master of Arts degree in Leadership from Duquesne University, and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College.  

CDR Morrison’s operational sea tours include tours with VP-47 “Golden Swordsmen,” Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii; the USS JOHN C. STENNIS, Bremerton, Washington; VP-40 “Fighting Marlins,” Whidbey Island, Washington; and the USS GEORGE H. W. BUSH, Norfolk, Virginia. He completed six deployments to the INDOPACOM, CENTCOM, and EUCOM Areas of Responsibility, flying and leading combat operations during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. 

His shore and staff tours include Training Squadron FOUR (VT-4) in Pensacola, FL; United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska where he served as an Information Operations Planner in the Joint Operations Directorate and as the Executive Officer to the Chief of Staff, USSTRATCOM; and United States European Command (USEUCOM), where he served as the South and West Regional Deputy Division Chief and the Southeast Europe Branch Chief in the Joint Plans, Policy and Strategy Directorate. 

CDR Morrison has over 2300 hours of flight time in the P-3C, T-6A, T-44, and T-34C. 

His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2), Navy Meritorious Service Medal, Strike Flight Air Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3), Joint Service Achievement Medal (2), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4), and various campaign, service, and unit awards.
