Biographical Information

Captain Honn was born in Chicago, Illinois, on May 22nd, 1987. He attended Saint Norbert College and graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor’s of Arts, attaining a double major in History and Political Science.  Captain Honn applied for and eventually was selected to attend Officer Candidate School in September of 2015.  Upon completion of The Basic School in November 2016, he was assigned to Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) Twentynine Palms to begin training as a Basic Communications Officer.  At Delta Company, Communications Training Battalion (CTB), Marine Corps Communications Electronics School (MCCES), then Second Lieutenant Honn was immediately selected to act as Platoon Commander for Bravo Company Marine Awaiting Training (BMAT) where he was charged with the supervision of a battalion-sized element, often numbering over 2000 junior Marines.

Following successful graduation from the Basic Communications Officer’s Course in June of 2017, Second Lieutenant Honn received orders to Marine Unmanned Vehicle Squadron One (VMU-1) aboard Marine Corps Air Station Yuma.  He assumed several billets within the squadron including Communications Officer-in-Charge and lead Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Uniformed Victim Advocate. 

After promoting to First Lieutenant in November of 2017, First Lieutenant Honn was selected to and eventually graduated from Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) Course 1-19 in the fall of 2018, achieving the additional Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) of 7277, Weapons and Tactics Instructor, Air Command and Control.  First Lieutenant Honn accepted Career Designation and was promoted to Captain in January of 2020.

During his tenure at Marine Unmanned Aerial Squadron One, Captain Honn assisted in the planning and execution of six Weapons and Tactics Instructor Courses, six Integrated Training Exercises (ITX), four Marine Expeditionary Units (MEU), and multiple other exercises and internal training evolutions.  He supervised the team responsible for the initial communications infrastructure establishment and support of the Marine Corps’ first MQ-9 Ground Control Station, supporting Task Force Southwest from MCAS Yuma in support of OPERATION RESOLUTE SUPPORT and OPERATION FREEDOM SENTINEL.  Captain Honn has supervised two I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF) Traditional Security Inspections, three 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (3D MAW) Key Management Infrastructure (KMI) Immediate Supervisor-in-Charge inspections, two Field Supply Maintenance and Analysis Office (FSMAO) inspections, and two Logistic Readiness Evaluations (LRE), helping to propel VMU-1 to superior evaluations during each inspection.

Captain Honn was selected to serve as the oncoming Marine Officer Instructor (MOI) in Jaunary of 2020 for Arizona State University and subsequently reported to the university’s Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Unit (NROTCU) in June 2020. Captain Honn is pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration degree from ASU.

Captain Honn has twice qualified for the Marine Corps High Intensity Tactical Training (HITT) Championships, a service-wide tactical athlete competition, placing in the top ten in 2018 and 2019, respectively. His decorations include one Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.  Capt Honn currently resides in Scottsdale, Arizona.
