Biographical Detail

Lieutenant Michael R. Hammond, hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio graduated from the Carl H. Lindner College of Business at the University of Cincinnati in 2013 with Bachelor’s Degree in Finance. Upon graduation, he obtained his Series 7 and Series 66 licenses while working for Fidelity Investments, working primarily with retirement account investing. He commissioned in April of 2016 as a Surface Warfare Officer via Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island.

Upon completion of the Basic Division Officer Course in July of 2016, LT Hammond reported onboard USS NORMANDY (CG 60) where he served as First Lieutenant and Search and Rescue Officer. During his time onboard NORMANDY, he led multiple warfare areas through a complex basic and advanced phase in preparation for the HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75) Strike Group 2018 Sixth Fleet deployment. During this time he received his Surface Warfare Officer qualification.

In October 2018, LT Hammond graduated from Surface Navigator School and reported onboard USS BILLINGS (LCS 15) as the Navigator, Training Officer, and Legal Officer. As a plank owner, LT Hammond led BILLINGS from commissioning through a highly complex advanced phase in preparation for her maiden deployment. His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and numerous unit commendations and awards including the Battle Efficiency Award.
